MILLER DIESEL ENGINE DRIVES USED ON VECTOR PIPELINE RIGHT-OF-WAY Continuing the success demonstrated last year on the Alliance Pipeline, products from Miller Electric and ITW Hobart Brothers are now being used for mainline construction of the Vector Pipeline. Miller Manager of Pipeline Construction Dave Bickel notes that “many of the products and processes used on the Alliance were U.S. technology firsts (see MEMCO Winter 1999). After experiencing their benefits, the construction companies involved didn’t hesitate to use even more ITW products on the Vector Pipeline.” Sheehan Pipe Line Construction Co., building the 102-mile section from Joliet, Illinois, to the Indiana/Michigan state line, uses the multi-process PipePro™ 304 inverter-based engine drive and Super S-32P feeder for tie-ins and repairs and the Miller Induction Heating Power System to pre-heat pipe. Welded Construction, L.P. also uses the PipePro 304 and Super S-32P, as well as dozens of XMT® 304 inverters for mechanized welding on the 170 miles of remaining U.S. mainline construction to St. Clair County, Michigan. Thousands of pounds of electrodes from Hobart Brothers complete joints on the Vector Pipeline, including XL-8Ni1 flux cored wire and Pipemaster® E6010 and E8010 rods. The company’s Metalloy metal cored wire is also being tested for welding pipe with the pulsed MIG process. © 2002 Miller Electric Mfg. Co |
